Suffer to Please is out

So, this is a remake of a game called "Captured in the Dark" that was supposed to be a quick proof of concept and was never supposed to have  even updates, let alone a remake. But some important lessons were learned and the story had too much potential to be left in its previous state. All owners of the previous game are going to get this one for free of course.

Here's a list the major changes/lessons, in no particular order:

  • Name - "Captured in the Dark" is a nice and catchy name, but it has two issues - there's a book with a very similar name and premise, and also it does not create a proper idea what the story is about. "Suffer to Please" is a much more accurate depiction of what the heroine is going through - suffering for the pleasure of the 'villains' (using quotes as they are truly villains by any possible definition but their role in the story is more nuanced)
  • Artstyle - biggest change of all. I used photorealistic images in the original game with some processing and limited stylization. Turned out the more the story develops the more constrained it is by the pictures I have, and on top of that stores and payment providers really dislike what I was doing. The more stylized artstyle of the new game is definitely less colorful but some pictures are in fact better this way. But most importantly, it freed the story to develop more naturally, which was the primary driver behind the decision to switch
  • Sex scenes - Used to be none, now there are a lot. The lack of sex scenes in the original was a mixture between forced limitation by the artstyle and a conscious story choice. The psychological-only BDSM theme had its advantages but definitely lacked a physical aspect. The remake fixes this with lots of physical BDSM-themed sex scenes which will appeal to those who like similar content. It still follows the "no dicks, no creampie" policy as one of the main motivations for making this game in the first place was me not enjoying these kinds of scenes
  • Story pacing - All the above changes allowed rewriting and reorganizing large chunks of the story to provide much more fluent heroine's journey. This was always supposed to be a dark but positive erotic story with kidnapping as a plot device but the previous version didn't reflect that. The story can still be read as a cautionary horror tale, but it's now more clearly communicated that this is not the intended way to experience it.
